NAC plus N-acetyl-L-cysteine for sulphur supply and cell protection
The amino acid L-cysteine is a source of sulphur for our
body. It is important for the formation of many proteins (e.g. creatine and
insulin) and can stabilise their structure by forming
sulphur bridges.
There are around 500 amino acids found in nature. Twenty of these
amino acids act as building blocks for the proteins found in the human body;
they are known as ‘essential amino acids’
. These essential amino acids are classified into the
categories ‘essential’, ‘semi-essential’ and ‘non-essential’
. Cysteine, a semi-essential amino acid, can
be synthesised by the body from L-methionine. Under certain
conditions, however, this synthesis is insufficient to meet the body’s
requirements. Cysteine, like methionine, is one of the two
fundamental sulphur-containing amino acids.
N-acetyl-L-cysteine, or NAC for short, is the acetylated form of
cysteine.
N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) as a dietary supplement offers several advantages over L-cysteine: it is better tolerated, has higher bioavailability and is less prone to oxidation. Once ingested, NAC can be converted into cysteine, which forms part of certain bodily proteins . Furthermore, cysteine is one of the precursors of glutathione, which is produced through the biosynthesis of the amino acids cysteine, glycine and glutamic acid.

Ingredients
N-acetyl-L-cysteine, anti-caking agent (rice fibre), vegetable capsule (pullulan, derived from fermented cassava starch).
Recommended intake
As a food supplement for adults, take 1–2 capsules per day with water between meals (at least half an hour before or two hours after eating).
Notes from EnergyVital
L-cysteine is a sulphur-containing amino acid. This may cause an unpleasant odour to be released when the freshness seal is opened. This is not a negative but a positive indicator of quality.
Storage instructions
Store in a cool, dry place away from light (not in the fridge).
Legal information
Do not exceed the recommended daily intake. Food supplements are not a substitute for a balanced and varied diet and a healthy lifestyle. Keep out of the reach of young children.
