Natto, a dish from Japan, is considered a superfood
It is produced by the fermentation of soya beans and
contains many nutrients, such as the enzyme nattokinase
and vitamin K2. Nowadays, both vitamin K2 and
nattokinase are available separately as dietary supplements. For
people who do not like the strong taste of natto, this
is a major advantage.
Vitals’ Nattokinase-NSK contains the high-quality nattokinase NSK-SD®
from the Japanese manufacturer Japan Bio Science Laboratories (JBSL)
. NSK-SD® has been used in human trials in most
studies. Furthermore, NSK-SD® is
the only nattokinase assessed by the EFSA, which means
nattokinase is authorised as a food supplement
in Europe. In summary: Nattokinase-NSK guarantees a
highly pure nattokinase with optimal enzymatic activity.
A special superfood for breakfast
Thanks to the growing popularity of the internet and social
media, we have gained much greater insight into other cuisines
. As a result, dishes closely associated with a
particular region have become increasingly well-known
. This also applies to natto, a fermented soya product that has been
used in Japanese cuisine for centuries. Natto is produced by
fermenting soya beans using the bacterium Bacillus
subtilis natto. Its characteristic constituents, such as vitamin K2
(as menaquinone-7) and nattokinase (a special enzyme with a
unique function), are produced during the
fermentation process.
Natto is an unrivalled source of these
nutrients. This is one of the reasons why it is
known as a superfood. In Japan, it is usually served for
breakfast alongside rice, eggs and mustard.
Regular natto consumers in Japan consume greater amounts of
nattokinase and vitamin K2 than those who do not eat natto
. Natto is not easy to find everywhere.
Furthermore, its taste is, to put it mildly,
very distinctive and not to everyone’s liking. Fortunately,
it is possible to produce nattokinase (and vitamin K2) as
dietary supplements. This means you no longer need to eat natto
to benefit from these nutrients.
The highest-quality nattokinase comes from Japan. In 1998,
the Japanese company Japan Bio Science Laboratories
(JBSL) succeeded in isolating nattokinase from fermented, non-GM soya beans
using a patented
manufacturing process. The nattokinase is known under the
brand name NSK-SD®, which stands for Natural Super Kinase-Spray
Dried. One capsule of Nattokinase-NSK
from Vitals contains 100 mg of NSK-SD®. This corresponds to an enzyme activity
of 2000 fibrinolytic units (FU). The amount of
nattokinase consumed by a person eating an average portion
of around 50 grams of natto is approximately 2000 FU.
Nattokinase-NSK is free from vitamin K2. It can, if
necessary, be purchased as a separate supplement. It is
in fact anything but easy to produce pure nattokinase with
good enzymatic activity. In order to correctly assess the quality of a
nattokinase preparation, several
laboratory tests are necessary. Unlike some other
nattokinase products on the market, NSK-SD® passes all these
tests with flying colours. Furthermore, the quality and
safety of NSK-SD® have been consistently
demonstrated in numerous human studies. Ultimately, it is the only
nattokinase to have undergone an official
safety assessment by the EFSA, on the basis of which
it was authorised as a food supplement in Europe.
In other words: the highest-quality nattokinase comes from Japan
and is contained in Vitals Nattokinase-NSK.

Vitals, our new brand from 2025
We are constantly on the lookout for brands that represent our ideals: The highest quality, consistent omission of superfluous additives such as titanium dioxide or porcine gelatine, very good value for money and absolute reliability in delivery to us and therefore also to customers.
This is very difficult because such companies are extremely rare among the mass of manufacturers of food supplements that are now on the market. But we have managed to find them again, with Vitals from the Netherlands!
Manufacturer's address: Vitals Voedingssupplementen BV, Pieter Lieftinckweg 29, 1505 HX Zaandam, Netherlands. E-mail: customer service@vitals.eu.
