Some may think, perhaps, what a bold hypothesis. But on the other hand: D-ribose is a naturally occurring sugar molecule that is required for the synthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP is the primary energy source for cells. It is a building block of ATP and supports the replenishment of cellular energy stores, especially after intense physical activity. Vitamins are there to stimulate and regulate bodily processes. And vitamin B3 is the vitamin responsible for energy balance. So the comparison is not so far-fetched!
Scientists are currently intensively studying different variants of vitamin B3, such as nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) and nicotinamide riboside (NR). Even the media have picked up NMN. It is often overlooked that nicotinamide plays an equally important role in the formation of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) as NMN and NR. NAD plays a crucial role as an intermediate in our energy metabolism.
The far more common form of vitamin B3 is nicotinamide, which is why it is much cheaper compared with NMN. In addition, nicotinamide, unlike NMN, is officially approved as a food supplement due to its long-standing track record. The long-term use of NMN has not yet been sufficiently researched, which is why it is currently not permitted to be sold.

Our energy metabolism: a highly complex system of chemical reactions

To function optimally, our body needs food daily as an energy source. Our cells contain mitochondria that act as the cell's power stations. Here, nutrients such as sugars and fatty acids are converted through a reaction with oxygen into adenosine triphosphate (ATP): the universal fuel of the human body.
Our body's energy metabolism is a highly complex and sophisticated system of chemical reactions of many different kinds. Various substances (including coenzymes and enzymes) are important in this process. Some of these substances are produced by the body itself. Others, such as vitamin B3, are obtained exclusively through the diet.

It is a group of various related compounds, including nicotinamide (also known as niacinamide), nicotinic acid (also known as niacin) and nicotinamide riboside (abbreviated NR). A precursor of one of the most important coenzymes in our organism, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), is vitamin B3. A coenzyme helps an enzyme to carry out a chemical reaction correctly. NAD is mainly involved in reactions necessary for energy production from fats, carbohydrates and protein.
NAD's crucial importance Here we go a little deeper and take a closer look at the significant function of NAD. NAD is unique because it is present in all foods. NAD captures the electrons released during the conversion of nutrients (along with hydrogen ions). This forms the electron-rich NADH, the H standing for hydrogen. NADH then transports these electrons to the site where they are released. Ultimately, a further chain reaction results in the universal energy source ATP. The body needs ATP to carry out all processes necessary for its correct functioning.
NAD is used up in certain reactions in the body and consumed. Therefore it is important that we consume enough vitamin B3 daily. Unfortunately, the efficiency of the body's own NAD production decreases with age. Nicotinamide, a form of vitamin B3, is also converted in the body into NMN in a manner similar to NR, from which NAD is formed.
RiaGev-SR®: a patented blend of nicotinamide and D-ribose NDR 760 mg from Vitals contains RiaGev-SR® from the US producer Bioenergy Life Science. Ingredients

Recommended intake
Take 1–2 tablets per day with water at a meal. If taking 1 tablet per day, preferably at breakfast. If taking 2 tablets per day, preferably at breakfast and dinner.
Notes
Nicotinamide does not cause a flush (hot flushes and itching) like, for example, niacin.
