Platinum multivitamins every day, 60 tablets

The most comprehensive and optimally formulated multivitamin for twice-daily intake

Vitals’ multivitamins, which are taken daily, are the top choice in the ‘Every Day Platinum’ range. The suffix ‘Platinum’ denotes the variant with the highest dose and the most complete formulation in a range. This also applies to this multivitamin, for which the optimal dosage is two tablets a day. For anyone who wants only the best, it is the first choice.

The limited space within a tablet poses a major problem when formulating a multivitamin and mineral supplement. In particular, some key macrominerals such as magnesium, calcium and potassium are often affected. Of course, price is also a major factor. This often comes at the expense of important but costly nutrients such as vitamin K2 and CoQ10. Jeden Tag Platinum has been designed so that you start with two tablets a day. This has created greater flexibility, meaning it is not necessary to take several other supplements in addition to achieve the desired daily intake. The result is a multivitamin that not only contains generous amounts of magnesium (100 mg), calcium (200 mg), potassium (300 mg) and vitamin C (400 mg), but also high doses of vitamin K2 (180 μg) and vitamin D3 (50 μg). It also includes special nutrients such as lutein, zeaxanthin, meso-zeaxanthin, taurine, acetyl-L-carnitine, alpha-lipoic acid, CoQ10 and lycopene.

Who is it for?

‘Every Day Platinum’ is suitable for adults and older people who wish to benefit from higher doses and do not wish to take additional supplements such as calcium, magnesium or potassium, or vitamins C, D or K alongside their multivitamin supplement. Ideal for supporting an active lifestyle (demanding work, high-pressure jobs, physical activities, sport) or for doing everything possible to ensure the healthiest possible ageing.

Based on the latest data and research

Every Day Platinum is a carefully formulated multivitamin containing essential nutrients and specific additives. In selecting the ingredients, easily absorbable substances and compounds were used in appropriate proportions and doses. For nutrient, taking into account the average intake among adults and older people in the Netherlands. And taking into account the estimated daily requirement to support or promote optimal health. The recommended daily allowances (RDAs¹) have been taken into account, but where necessary, deviations have been made based on advancing (orthomolecular) insights from the (latest) scientific research. Naturally, it is necessary to make a selection, as only a limited amount can fit into a single tablet and the price must remain within reasonable limits. Jeden Tag Platinum is exceptionally well-founded, excels in many respects and has proven to be outstanding compared to other multivitamins.

1 The term RDA is used here, as it is still the most commonly used term, although it has now been replaced by the term NRV (Nutrient Reference Value). These are statutory reference values defined by the European Commission. These reference values provide a guide to the average amount of vitamins and minerals that an adult requires. No distinction is made based on age, gender or specific circumstances. The levels of vitamins and minerals in a dietary supplement are stated on the label as a percentage (%) of the NRV. However, the NRV values may differ from the recommended amounts set by health authorities .

B vitamins in the ideal form and quantity

The B vitamins in Jeden Tag Platinum are present in sufficient quantities, but within safe limits. Daily requirements, as well as average intake and its distribution, have been thoroughly investigated. The determination takes into account not only the latest scientific findings and reliable upper limits, but also the body’s ability to metabolise the various B vitamins.

The biologically active (coenzymatic) forms of vitamins B2 (riboflavin-5'-phosphate), B6 (pyridoxal-5'-phosphate), B12 (methyl- and adenosylcobalamin) and folic acid (5-methyltetrahydrofolate glucosamine salt) are all contained in Jeden Tag Platinum. These are the forms utilised by the body, and research shows that they exhibit higher bioavailability within the body.

Folic acid as 5-methyltetrahydrofolate

Folic acid (pteroylmonoglutamic acid), which is frequently used in dietary supplements for reasons of stability, is a synthetic form that does not occur naturally. In foods, it is present as folate. The body must convert folic acid into tetrahydrofolate and then into 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) . Research has shown that, in a considerable number of people, this complex conversion process is far from optimal. Supplementation with 5-MTHF resolves this problem.

Platinum uses the superior form of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate bound to glucosamine salt (under the brand name Quatrefolic®) every day. Thanks to this binding with plant-based glucosamine salt, the biologically active form is kept stable and optimal absorption is ensured. Studies confirm the superior water solubility, stability and bioavailability of Quatrefolic®. 5-MTHF can also cross the blood-brain barrier, unlike the ‘normal’ (synthetic) form of folic acid.

Vitamin B12 in the form of methyl- and adenosylcobalamin

The dietary intake of vitamin B12 is a complex process. Furthermore, evidence suggests that the RDA (or NRV) of 2.5 µg per day is set too low and that requirements in healthy adults and older people can vary and may exceed 20 µg per day. Every day, Platinum contains 40 µg of vitamin B12 in the biologically active forms methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin. This is because the safety of vitamin B12 supplementation is guaranteed and it is sometimes difficult to obtain B12 from food and dietary supplements.

Cyanocobalamin, a cheaper, synthetic variant of vitamin B12 that does not occur naturally and must be converted by the body into active forms, is a component of many multivitamins and B12 products. During this process, the cyanide component is separated from the cobalamin, which must then be metabolised by the body. Research has shown that the bioavailability of vitamin B12 in the forms of methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin is higher than that of cyanocobalamin.

Vitamin D

In recent years, European government authorities have recognised that the recommended intake of vitamin D via the diet (15 μg) should be higher and that the maximum permissible dose (100 μg) could be increased. In the Netherlands, the authorities remain cautious and express the view that 10 μg would be sufficient and that the upper limit should be set at 75 μg. The RDA/NRV, curiously, remains at 5 μg. In the orthomolecular world, however, the importance of higher doses has long been recognised. Leading experts in the field of vitamin D recommend that calcidiol levels should be at least 75 nmol/l. It is estimated that a daily oral dose of 25–75 μg of vitamin D3 is required to maintain such a vitamin D level. That is why Jeden Tag Platinum contains a generous 50 μg per two tablets.

Vitamin K

Jeden Tag Platinum contains 20 μg of vitamin K1 and 180 μg of vitamin K2. The liver primarily absorbs vitamin K1 and activates the clotting factors, whilst vitamin K2 is distributed to a much greater extent throughout the body’s tissues. The standard RDA for vitamin K is based on the amount required for normal blood clotting . However, the ideal dosage for the other essential functions of vitamin K has not yet been taken into account . These include, for example, ensuring that calcium is properly absorbed and ends up in the right place – in the bones. Even in standard guidelines, no distinction is made between vitamin K1 and K2. The absorption of vitamin K2 is 10 times more efficient and its bioavailability is significantly greater than that of vitamin K1. For this reason, vitamin K2 is far more effective and superior to vitamin K1 when it comes to achieving optimal vitamin K levels. When it comes to activating certain vitamin K-dependent enzymes, the effect of vitamin K2 is also significantly greater than that of vitamin K1. The activated enzymes ensure that calcium is transported into the bones. Research has shown that the ideal daily intake is 180 μg of vitamin K2.

Stability of vitamin K2

It appears that vitamin K2 is a very sensitive substance. Particularly when combined with magnesium and/or calcium, the concentration of this vitamin in a capsule or tablet decreases rapidly. It poses a real challenge to use vitamin K2 in a product containing high doses of calcium and/or magnesium . That is why Vitals uses a high-quality K2 supplement under the brand name K2VITAL™ DELTA, which remains stable even in a formula containing high levels of these minerals. A patented microencapsulation process protects the fat-soluble K2 particles with two layers (including gum arabic and starch) against reactions with other ingredients. An independent laboratory was commissioned by Vitals to test the stability of K2VITAL™ DELTA as well as other vitamin K2 brands, particularly in combination with the Ingredients used in Vitals products. It was concluded that K2 protection is essential, that the K2 content in K2VITAL™ DELTA remained constant, and that it was superior to other K2 ingredients.

High-dose natural calcium and magnesium from the sea

This multivitamin stands out because it contains high-dose calcium and magnesium, which makes taking them separately unnecessary. It’s that simple. The minerals are from the Aquamin® brand and are sourced from the sea – which also makes them special. The Aquamin magnesium is extracted from seawater in the Irish Sea, and studies have shown that it is particularly well absorbed by the body. The raw material contains, in addition to around 35% elemental magnesium, small amounts of over 70 trace elements. The calcium content (Aquamin Calcium) comes from the red alga Lithothamnium calcareum. This species of alga absorbs minerals and trace elements from the sea and stores them. In nature, it has a beautiful red-pink colour, but upon death it calcifies and turns white or light grey. Only calcified red algae originating from the waters along the Icelandic coast are harvested. The raw material contains 32% calcium, 3% magnesium and small amounts of over 70 trace elements. Another reason for the improved absorption and the impressive study results could be the synergistic effect of the natural trace element profile of this calcium and magnesium.

With potassium

When choosing a multivitamin and mineral supplement, potassium is often listed as one of the minerals that is considered last. This is due to the high daily requirement for potassium (approximately 3,500 mg for adults) and the fact that a single tablet does not offer enough space for this amount . Consequently, potassium and its quantities in multivitamin supplements are often absent or present only in trivial amounts. But Every Day Platinum also contains 300 mg of potassium ! This is very important and quite unique. In addition to the numerous standard recommendations to monitor salt (sodium) intake, orthomolecular studies and articles also recommend considering an increase in potassium intake. Furthermore, the latest study on dietary intake found that adults in the Netherlands consume an average of around 3200 mg per day, whilst the recommended intake is 3500 mg. It is therefore no unnecessary luxury to take an additional 300 mg of potassium every day via a multivitamin supplement. Potassium has a positive effect on maintaining normal blood pressure, although this effect is more pronounced in people with a high sodium intake. It is crucial for muscle contraction and the transmission of nerve impulses, which is why it is important for proper muscle function and the nervous system.

Iron, zinc, copper and manganese in the form of amino acid chelates (bisglycinate)

For the minerals iron, zinc, copper and manganese, amino acid chelates in the form of bisglycinates are used. Each magnesium particle is strongly bound to two glycine molecules (chelated). Minerals in this compound form reach the small intestine easily and are absorbed there very effectively . They are also gentle on the stomach, which can be particularly beneficial in the case of iron (Ferrochel®). Vitals carefully selects amino acid chelates from Albion Minerals, which are identified by the TRAACS® brand, standing for ‘The Real Amino Acid Chelate System’. This brand serves to distinguish them from other amino acid chelates that may be of inferior quality or unstable. Albion holds over 100 patents worldwide that protect the process, the science and the structure of its amino acid-chelated minerals .

Choline in ample quantities

Choline has long been a standard component of multivitamin supplements. However, it is usually included in low doses (10–30 mg), as there was little knowledge about it at the time. But that is changing more and more! In 2012, the European Commission authorised three health claims for choline, which apply at a dose of at least 82.5 mg. It is important for normal fat metabolism and homocysteine metabolism, as well as for normal liver function. In the USA, an RDA of 550 mg/day was established in 2016, based on clinical studies to determine daily requirements. The EFSA stated in 2016 that choline is an essential nutrient; however, no RDA has yet been established for it. The average intake was set at 400 mg per day, based on the average intake levels in European countries and not on the US study. Among adults in Europe, the average intake varies between 291 and 468 mg per day. There is good reason to include a generous amount of choline in a daily multivitamin supplement. The VitaCholine® brand provides a total of 170 mg of choline in its ‘Every Day Platinum’ formula. This brand is synonymous with high quality, and extensive research has been carried out in connection with it.

Lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin

In addition to 10 mg of lutein and 2 mg of zeaxanthin, ‘Every Day Platinum’ also provides 10 mg of meso-zeaxanthin, which is a unique feature and is based on the latest research findings. These are natural carotenoids found in high concentrations in the retina and the macula lutea (yellow spot). Lutein and zeaxanthin are substances that the body cannot produce itself. It is therefore reliant on obtaining them through the diet . They are found, amongst other things, in green leafy vegetables as well as in red, yellow and orange fruit and vegetables. Meso-zeaxanthin is present in only minimal quantities in food (e.g. in prawns, salmon skin, and the skin and flesh of trout). It is primarily produced in the retina through the conversion of lutein via an enzymatic reaction. However, it can be effectively obtained through dietary supplements.

Ubiquinone

Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) is a substance found in the body and in the mitochondria (‘powerhouses’) of every cell. The literal translation of ‘ubiquinone’ is ‘present everywhere’. The body’s own production of coenzyme Q10 gradually decreases with age. The daily dose of Jeden Tag Platinum is therefore 50 mg.

Taurine (an organic compound)

In adults, taurine is a semi-essential nutrient that is synthesised primarily in the liver and brain from the sulphur-containing amino acids methionine and cysteine; vitamin B6 is involved in this conversion. As the body’s own synthesis is limited, dietary intake is important for maintaining good taurine status, particularly when taurine requirements are increased. As taurine is found mainly in meat, fish and poultry, vegetarians and vegans are more likely to have an insufficient dietary intake of it.

Acetyl-L-carnitine

Carnitine is found primarily in (red) meat and, to a much lesser extent, in plant-based foods. Depending on requirements, carnitine can be converted into acetyl-L-carnitine and vice versa. Carnitine is synthesised in the liver, kidneys and brain from the amino acids lysine and methionine, with vitamin C, iron, vitamin B6 and niacin acting as cofactors. The advantage of acetyl-L-carnitine supplementation compared to L-carnitine is that it crosses the blood-brain barrier more easily.

Alpha-lipoic acid

Alpha-lipoic acid is a fatty, sulphur-containing acid found in the mitochondria of all cells . It is soluble in both water and fat, which is a key characteristic. The body produces alpha-lipoic acid in small quantities. It is also found in small amounts in foods such as broccoli, liver and spinach.
