Resveratrol helps the plant withstand external influences and to assert itself under unfavourable growth conditions. Resveratrol is the subject of intensive scientific research. Around 8,000 scientific papers have been published on this topic, including over 200 human studies. Resveratrol acts primarily to protect the heart and blood vessels. Resveratrol works in various ways; among other effects it promotes good blood circulation. It is also a potent antioxidant. Resveratrol-VT from Vitals is a product containing highly pure resveratrol in the biologically active trans form (as opposed to the cis form, which shows little effect). It is produced using a modern fermentation process with baker's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae).

As an antioxidant, resveratrol can help protect body tissues and cells from oxidative damage. Its antioxidant effect is based on the fact that resveratrol can donate an electron to a free radical without becoming unstable itself, thereby helping to stop the chain reaction of oxidative damage. (See Fig. 1). This is, among other things, crucial for preserving heart health and flexible blood vessels. Resveratrol also benefits cardiovascular health in other ways. One of these is the promotion of blood circulation. Resveratrol supports the formation of nitric oxide (NO), a molecule produced in the vessel walls that causes widening of the blood vessels. Furthermore, resveratrol promotes the maintenance of healthy mitochondria, thereby supporting cellular energy production in the heart and vascular system. Finally, resveratrol contributes to a balanced immune response, which is important for normal cardiovascular function.

Bioavailability

The body absorbs trans-resveratrol well. In general, however, resveratrol concentrations in the blood are low, although its positive health effects are observed. The answer to this puzzle is the further bioactivation of resveratrol, including in the gut. Trans-resveratrol is absorbed by the enterocytes of the intestinal wall and can there be readily converted into active metabolites such as trans-resveratrol sulfate and trans-resveratrol glucuronide. The gut flora is also involved in the formation of these metabolites, which are partly responsible for the effects of resveratrol. For these reasons, resveratrol is highly effective despite its seemingly low bioavailability. The numerous human studies conducted with resveratrol confirm this.

In producing Veri-te™ they use a yeast fermentation process in which pure resveratrol is produced using baker's yeast.
