Salvestrol Shield, 60 capsules

Salvestrol® Shield is a plant extract containing phytonutrients (phytoalexins)

Plant defence compounds known as phytoalexins protect fruit and vegetables from viruses, bacteria, fungi, UV radiation and insects. The plant produces them in larger quantities only when required. Salvestrol® Shield provides 350 points per capsule and is intended for maintenance. Salvestrol® Platinum by Vitals is stronger and contains a particularly high dose: 2000 Salvestrol points per capsule.

Why Salvestrols are quantified in points: The Salvestrol point system is used to quantify the amount of Salvestrol in foods and dietary supplements. The potencies of different Salvestrols vary and are not directly related to the amount in milligrams. The point-system scale is based on the calculated amount of Salvestrol that occurred in a diet common more than 100 years ago. This amount represents 100 points.

Low levels of Salvestrols in today's diet

The discoverers of Salvestrols made an interesting observation: the Salvestrol content of fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs as well as processed foods varies considerably. The Salvestrol content in conventionally grown fruit and vegetables has been significantly reduced by crop protection agents such as fungicides. This is understandable, as the plant no longer needs to protect itself by producing phytoalexins. Over the past 50 to 60 years, plant selection and breeding have also contributed to a decline in the cultivation of varieties that naturally have a high content of bitter Salvestrols (and therefore require fewer crop protection agents). People also tend to choose new varieties of fruit and vegetables that are similar in size, shape and colour — older varieties with high Salvestrol content are ignored. Finally, food manufacturers remove Salvestrols from (refined) products such as fruit juices and olive oil to optimise flavour, colour and brilliance. The flavour component becomes more intense without added sugar. In refined foods, Salvestrols are typically present only in small amounts or not at all. The British research group that discovered Salvestrols concluded that today's diet contains 80 to 90% less Salvestrols than it did 50 to 100 years ago. Salvestrols are present in relevant amounts only in unsprayed and unprocessed foods.

Phytonutrient complex consisting of kabocha squash (Cucurbita maxima), grape (Vitis vinifera) and citrus bioflavonoids, rice flour (Oryza sativa), hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (vegetable capsule).

Recommended intake

Take 1 capsule twice daily with water at a meal.
