Valuable fibres for intestinal health and digestion

A balanced and varied diet includes sufficient dietary fibre, ideally from a range of sources. For many people following a Western-style diet, however, it can be a challenge to consume enough fibre. A fibre supplement can therefore be a useful addition to daily dietary intake.

Vitals’ Ultimate Fibre Blend combines four plant fibres in a unique formulation based on solid scientific foundations. It also includes a notable Dutch innovation called Benicaros®. This is a root fibre with a unique structure. In addition, Sunfiber® is included, a guar-bean fibre with unique benefits that has become well known and popular. The blend is complemented by Inavea™, which consists of soluble fibres from acacia gum and the fruit of the baobab tree – two African trees with high nutritional value. Together these four fibres form a broad and versatile fibre complex. The product is not called Ultimate Fibre Blend for nothing.

Fibre: an indispensable part of our diet

It is well known that an average Western diet contains relatively little fibre. Fibre are carbohydrates indigestible to humans that cannot be broken down by digestive enzymes in the small intestine. Instead they are (partly) fermented, “eaten” and transformed by bacteria in the large intestine. They can be regarded as the “food” of these essential microbes. Therefore it is important that these fermentable fibres are supplied in sufficient amounts.

Fibre naturally occur, among other sources, in wholegrain products, fruit, vegetables and pulses. It is recommended to consume 30 to 40 grams of fibre daily. Unfortunately, the average fibre intake for adults is only around 20 g per day. There is certainly room for improvement in this area. To increase fibre intake, a fibre supplement can be used in addition to a healthy and balanced diet. Vitals’ Ultimate Fibre Blend combines no fewer than four high-quality, scientifically substantiated fibres for a varied and diverse daily supplement.

Benicaros®: an innovative, upcycled fibre from carrot pulp

Benicaros® is an innovative ingredient derived from a specialised carrot fibre known as rhamnogalacturonan-I (RG-I). The Dutch company NutriLeads has developed a patented process to extract this fibre from the cell walls of carrots. Carrot pulp, a by-product of carrot juice production in Europe, is used as the raw material. This makes Benicaros® a sustainable product. Several studies carried out in cooperation with Wageningen University and Amsterdam UMC confirm the benefits of this so‑called precision fibre.

Inavea™ baobab and acacia fibres: even more powerful together Acacia gum (also known as gum arabic) is obtained from the bark of the Acacia seyal tree. This substance resembles resin, but unlike resin gum is water‑soluble and edible. Acacia gum is naturally high in fibre and can be used in a variety of foods. Nexira, the manufacturer, is a recognised expert in acacia gum and has decades of experience in cultivation, harvesting and processing. The company controls the entire production chain, which brings numerous advantages. It is also strongly committed to sustainability and social responsibility. No pesticides are applied to the trees during cultivation. The harvesting and processing of the gum into purified acacia fibres is also carried out sustainably.

Nexira has combined the acacia fibre in Ultimate Fibre Blend with baobab fibres. The fruit of the well‑known African baobab tree, also called the “tree of life”, also provides a wealth of fibre. The two fibre types complement each other excellently. A smaller amount is enough than would be required for the two fibres individually.

Sunfiber®: established fibres from guar beans

In India, including very arid regions, the guar plant (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba) is cultivated in several growing areas. In India the beans and leaves of this plant have been used as food for millennia. Guar beans contain a large amount of soluble, fermentable fibre. Sunfiber® is the brand name for guar bean fibres that retain their high-quality, user-friendly properties, such as excellent water solubility, through a natural fermentation process. Guar bean fibres are among the most commonly used fibre types in scientific research. For this reason they are indispensable in Ultimate Fibre Blend.

Ingredients

Fermented guar bean fibres (from Indian guar beans, Cyamopsis tetragonoloba, seeds), baobab fibres (Adansonia digitata, fruit), acacia fibres (Acacia seyal, gum), carrot extract (Daucus carota subsp. sativus, carrot), maltodextrin.

Recommended use

Take 1 level measuring scoop (10.85 grams) per day with a meal. Mix with approx. 200 ml water or another liquid. The fibres can also be added to foods (e.g. yoghurt).

Storage instructions

Store in a cool, dry place protected from light (not in the refrigerator).
