A balanced and varied diet includes sufficient fibre, ideally from a variety of sources. However, for many people whose diet is typical of the Western diet, it is a challenge to consume enough fibre.  A fibre supplement can therefore be a useful addition to one’s daily diet .

Vitals’ Ultimate Fibre Blend combines four plant-based fibres in a unique formulation based on sound scientific principles. Secondly, it includes a brilliant Dutch innovation called Benicaros®.  It consists of a root fibre with a unique structure. Secondly, it contains Sunfiber®, a guar bean fibre with unique benefits that has now become well-known and popular. The blend is supplemented with Inavea™, which consists of soluble fibres from the gum of the acacia tree and the fruit of the baobab tree – two African trees with high nutritional value. Fibre: an essential part of our diet

It is well known that the average Western diet contains relatively little fibre. Fibre consists of carbohydrates that are indigestible to humans and cannot be broken down by digestive enzymes in the small intestine.  Instead, they are (partially) fermented, ‘eaten’ and converted by bacteria in the large intestine. They can be regarded as the ‘food’ for these essential microbes.  It is therefore important to ensure an adequate intake of these fermentable fibres.

Dietary fibre is naturally found in, amongst other things, wholemeal products, fruit, vegetables and pulses.  It is recommended to consume 30 to 40 grams of fibre daily. Unfortunately, the average fibre intake among adults is only around 20 g per day. There is certainly room for improvement in this area.  To increase fibre intake, you can take a fibre supplement in addition to a healthy and balanced diet. Benicaros®: a novel, upcycled fibre derived from carrot pulp

Benicaros® is an innovative active ingredient derived from a specific carrot fibre known as rhamnogalacturonan-I (RG-I).  The Dutch company NutriLeads has developed a patented process to extract this fibre from the cell walls of carrots. Carrot pulp, which is a by-product of carrot juice production in Europe, serves as the raw material.  This makes Benicaros® a sustainable product. Several studies, carried out in collaboration with Wageningen University and Amsterdam UMC, confirm the benefits of this so-called ‘precision fibre’.

Inavea™ baobab and acacia fibre: an even more powerful combination Acacia gum (also known as gum arabic) is extracted from the bark of the Acacia seyal tree.  This substance resembles resin, but unlike resin, gum is water-soluble and edible. Acacia gum has a naturally high fibre content and can be used in a variety of foods .  Nexira, the manufacturer, is a leading expert in acacia gum and can draw on decades of experience in cultivation, harvesting and processing. Nexira has combined acacia fibre in Ultimate Fibre Blend with baobab fibres. The fruit of the well-known African baobab tree, also known as the ‘tree of life’, also offers a wealth of dietary fibre.  The two types of fibre complement each other perfectly. A smaller amount is sufficient than when the two fibres are taken separately.

Sunfiber®: established fibres from guar beans

In India, including very arid regions, the guar plant (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba) is cultivated in several growing regions . In India, the beans and leaves of this plant have been used as food for thousands of years.  Guar beans contain a large amount of soluble, fermentable dietary fibre. Sunfiber® is the brand name for guar bean fibres which, through a natural fermentation process, retain their high-quality, user-friendly properties, such as excellent water solubility.  Guar bean fibre is one of the types of fibre most frequently used in scientific research . For this reason, it is an essential component of Ultimate Fibre Blend.

Ingredients

Fermented guar bean fibre (from Indian guar beans, Cyamopsis tetragonoloba, seeds), baobab fibre (Adansonia digitata, fruit), acacia fibre (Acacia seyal, gum), carrot extract (Daucus carota subsp. sativus, carrot), maltodextrin.

Recommended intake

Take 1 level measuring spoon (10.85 grams) per day with a meal. Mix with (approx. 200 ml) water or another liquid. The fibres can also be added to foods (e.g. yoghurt).

Store in a cool, dry place away from light (not in the fridge).
