Vitamin A 4000 IU, 100 softgel capsules

4000 IU Vitamin A in the pure form retinyl palmitate

Fortunately, softgel capsules are no longer produced only from animal gelatin. Plant-based alternatives now exist, such as tapioca starch from cassava. Therefore Vitamin A 4000 IU from Vitals is also excellent for vegetarians and vegans.

Vitamin A: the multifunctional vitamin for skin, eyes and the immune system

Vitamin A plays an important role in numerous bodily functions. It supports the development of cells so that they can perform their specific tasks correctly, such as in the skin and the mucous membranes of the gut and lungs. Vitamin A is also fundamental for the eyes. It helps, among other things, to see sharply in low light. It also helps to maintain a normal fluid balance in the eye and promotes the healthy function of the cornea. Vitamin A is also important for the correct and balanced functioning of the immune system. In addition, it helps the body to make iron from its own stores more readily available – an important prerequisite for a good iron level in the blood.

Difference between vitamin A (retinol) and provitamin A (beta-carotene)

Two forms of vitamin A, beta-carotene and retinol, are included in food supplements. Beta-carotene is called provitamin A because the body must convert it into vitamin A. Beta-carotene has the advantage that its conversion in the body is regulated so that too much vitamin A is never produced.

However, there is also a disadvantage: the conversion of beta-carotene into vitamin A is not always efficient. This means there is no certainty about how much vitamin A you ultimately obtain from beta-carotene. In situations where an additional need for vitamin A exists, it can be sensible to choose a supplement with readily available retinol. Pregnancy vitamins sometimes use a mixture of retinol and beta-carotene.

Important to note: In Belgium and the Netherlands the content of vitamin A (retinol) in food supplements is legally limited to 1200 µg per day, as this amount is considered safe for pregnant women. The product “Vitamin A 4000 IU” from Vitals provides this safe dosage of 1200 µg retinyl palmitate per vegan softgel capsule. This is a stable compound of retinol with a fatty acid, which ensures that the vitamin A is better preserved and works optimally.

This is very difficult because such companies are extremely rare among the mass of dietary supplement manufacturers now on the market. But we have once again managed to find one with Vitals from the Netherlands!
