Thiamine is the precursor to the biologically active form of vitamin B1, thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP). Magnesium is required for the conversion of thiamine into TPP. Thiamine pyrophosphate, a coenzyme, plays a role in various reactions involved in energy metabolism, including the production of energy from fats, carbohydrates and proteins. This function is involved in the energy metabolism of all cells, including those of the heart and the nervous system, and thus supports the normal functioning of the heart and nervous system. It also plays a role in brain and nerve function, as these are responsible for processes such as concentration, memory and mood. The product ‘Vitamin B1 250 mg’ from Vitals contains a high amount of pure thiamine. The active ingredient is enclosed in a vegetable capsule made from cassava and is supplemented with a bulking agent derived from rice. If you use or recommend Vitamin B1, it is best to take it alongside a multivitamin supplement or a vitamin B complex (as the effects of the B vitamins are mutually reinforcing).
