Vitamin B2 25 mg, 100 capsules

For increased strength and vitality, normal nerve function and the maintenance of eyesight

Vitamin B2, also known as riboflavin or lactoflavin, is an essential vitamin that we must obtain from our diet. As a building block of important coenzymes, it plays a role in many metabolic processes in our body. For example, in the production of energy from food, tissue growth and the maintenance of a healthy nervous system.
A vitamin B2 deficiency can develop particularly in pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, alcoholics, as well as vegetarians and vegans. Symptoms include poorly healing wounds, chapped skin, gum inflammation and chronic fatigue. External supplementation is also advisable in cases of increased activity (sport, physical labour), prolonged stress, dieting and infections.

Vitals offers vitamin B2 in its active form, which is converted into riboflavin in the body: sodium riboflavin-5'-phosphate. In this active form, it acts as a coenzyme in energy metabolism and supports energy production by functioning as a biochemical electron carrier in many related oxidation and reduction reactions. It also helps to protect fats, proteins and DNA from oxidation, as the production of glutathione and the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase depends on this vitamin. Furthermore, vitamin B2 can help reduce tiredness, aids in maintaining normal red blood cells and is beneficial for the skin, eyes, mucous membranes and the nervous system. Riboflavin belongs to a group of yellow pigments (flavins). When excreted, riboflavin gives the urine a characteristic pale yellow colour. Vitamin B2 25 mg from Vitals provides a high dose in a pure, biologically active form. The active ingredient is contained in a plant-based capsule made from cassava and is supplemented with a carrier substance derived from rice. It is best to use or recommend Vitamin B2 in combination with a vitamin B complex or multivitamin (as B vitamins work together to a large extent).

Effects of Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)

Vitamin B2 is an important component of numerous coenzymes, which regulate various metabolic processes in our body. It is a key enzyme in the respiratory chain. As such, it supports carbohydrate and fat metabolism, but is also involved in the breakdown of proteins to produce energy. This gets our metabolism up to speed. Vitamin B2 also plays an important role in combating free radicals.
Above all, riboflavin is essential for energy production because it is a key enzyme in the respiratory chain. As a result, it supports carbohydrate and fat metabolism, but is also involved in the breakdown of proteins to produce energy.

Vitamin B2 helps regulate homocysteine levels, promotes the conversion of vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) into its active form (pyridoxal-5-phosphate) and supports the action of vitamin B3 (niacin).

Riboflavin is required for healthy skin and blood formation. It has been shown to support eyesight.

Symptoms of vitamin B2 deficiency

The first symptoms of a vitamin B2 deficiency are changes to the skin, such as cracked corners of the mouth, chapped lips and inflammation of the gums. These are accompanied by a general feeling of weakness, listlessness, exhaustion and headaches.
A severe riboflavin deficiency can lead to visual disturbances . It can also cause problems with blood formation (anaemia).

The metabolism of other vitamins (vitamins K, B3 and B6 as well as folic acid) is also impaired by a vitamin B2 deficiency.
