Vitamin B5 for mental performance and normal hormone metabolism
Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) is required for many metabolic processes and for the production of important hormones, neurotransmitters, steroids and antibodies, as well as vitamin D. Our bodies cannot produce vitamin B5 themselves. We must therefore obtain this essential vitamin from our diet every day.
Pantothenic acid is found in almost all foods. This is where its name comes from (the Greek ‘pantothen’ means ‘from everywhere’). However, a deficiency can occur as a result of an unbalanced diet and losses during food preparation (cooking, frying). The body’s requirement for pantothenic acid increases in cases of chronic inflammation, gastrointestinal disorders, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and when taking the contraceptive pill.
Vitals Vitamin B5 is ideal for balancing this out:
- It boosts your energy levels.
- It can help combat tiredness and fatigue.
- It supports brain function (contributes to normal mental performance).
- It is important for normal hormone metabolism (contributes to the normal synthesis and metabolism of steroid hormones).
- It helps with the production and normal metabolism of vitamin D.
- It is involved in the formation of certain neurotransmitters.
Vitals Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), in the form of calcium D-pantothenate, has high bioavailability, is highly concentrated and 100% pure. It contains no additives such as magnesium stearate or allergenic substances. It is therefore very well tolerated even by people with allergies and those with sensitive constitutions.
Effects of vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid)
Vitamin B5 supports energy metabolism and contributes to the normal synthesis and metabolism of steroid hormones in the adrenal cortex (e.g. cholesterol), vitamin D and certain neurotransmitters. It is a direct precursor of coenzyme A, which plays a central role in metabolism.
Vitamin B5 is important for the synthesis of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. This neurotransmitter ensures the smooth transmission of nerve impulses between nerve cells and the processing of information.
Vitamin B5 is required for the production of hormones, such as the sex hormones testosterone and progesterone. It enhances our ability to cope better with stress, as the adrenal glands can only produce sufficient quantities of the anti-stress hormone cortisol during times of stress if there is enough vitamin B5 available. Furthermore, the vitamin supports the production of phospholipids for the formation of cell membranes and of porphyrins (pigments in the oxygen-carrying haemoglobin).
Symptoms of vitamin B5/pantothenic acid deficiency
As with other B vitamins, tiredness and weakness are among the first symptoms of a vitamin B5 deficiency. In extreme cases, impaired acetylcholine production can lead to a tingling sensation in the feet and legs.Nutrition declaration
