Vitamin C powder, 200 grams of calcium ascorbate

Not acidic, unproblematic even with stomach problems!

Calcium ascorbate is a buffered form of vitamin C powder suitable for people who have difficulty with ascorbic acid. Calcium ascorbate is less acidic than ascorbic acid, so it causes virtually no gastrointestinal complaints. To increase vitamin C intake, it makes sense to opt for a non-acidic variant such as calcium ascorbate. An additional benefit of this product is the calcium content of 210 mg per measuring scoop – this can be useful if a calcium supplement is also required. Vitamin C powder is also suitable for adults and children who have difficulty swallowing tablets. The amount of powder can be adjusted to individual needs using the supplied measuring scoop.

Effects of Vitamin C

Vitamin C is probably the most frequently mentioned vitamin, known above all for its positive influence on the immune system. And that is true. In particular, during intense physical activity or in cold environments, vitamin C has a supportive effect on the immune system. However, this vitamin is also involved in a wide range of processes.

Vitamin C is a water-soluble antioxidant and plays an important role as a scavenger of free radicals. It is part of a complex system that includes endogenous antioxidants, dietary antioxidants and antioxidant enzymes, with mutual dependencies and interactions. In this role it protects DNA, proteins and lipids from oxidative damage and thus helps to maintain healthy cells and tissues. In addition, vitamin C is required as a coenzyme for three different enzymes involved in the production of collagen (the most abundant structural protein in the human body). Normal collagen formation is important, among other things, for bones, cartilage, gums, skin, tendons and blood vessels.

Vitamin C is a necessary cofactor for dopamine-beta-monooxygenase (DBM), the enzyme that converts dopamine into noradrenaline and adrenaline. Both act as neurotransmitters and hormones in the body, which is why vitamin C has a positive effect on nervous system function and contributes to normal psychological function. Vitamin C is indispensable for two enzymes involved in the synthesis of carnitine, which is required for the transport of long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria for energy production.

How vitamin C contributes to maintaining energy

It can also be helpful for fatigue. In addition, many people do not get enough iron from their diet – especially women of childbearing age, pregnant women and (young) children. Vitamin C improves the absorption of iron from food. This concerns non-haem iron, which occurs in both plant and animal foods. Vitamin C does not influence the absorption of haem iron, which is found only in animal products. Around 90% of the iron present in food is non-haem iron; only 10% consists of haem iron. Vitamin C can act as an electron donor to convert oxidised vitamin E back into its active, reduced form, thereby preserving its effect. Humans cannot synthesise vitamin C and are entirely dependent on dietary intake for their supply of this vitamin.
