B12 Plus, 90 tablets

Vitamin B12 – quality matters

Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) was only discovered in 1948. It is a very complex, large molecule and is required for the development of all cells in the body. Nerve cells in particular suffer from a deficiency. The best-selling B12 is the synthetic cyanocobalamin. Although it is effective, it is not optimal, as it must first be converted for absorption. In the process the not entirely insignificant cyano compound (better known as hydrocyanic acid) is released. Methylcobalamin is the form the body needs and is absorbed significantly better without conversion. There is another form of vitamin B12 that is even somewhat better than the already very good methylcobalamin: adenosylcobalamin! Folic acid has been added for an extra boost.

Not all folic acid is the same.

Folic acid, or more precisely folate, is best present in its methyltetrahydrofolate form. This is the form the body needs. If you take plain folic acid, the body must first convert it to 5‑MTHF. About 50% of people cannot do this due to a metabolic disorder; for these people it would be completely pointless to take simple, cheap folic acid. Consequently, such preparations would also have no protective effect, e.g. against spina bifida in the unborn child. With 5‑MTHF you play it safe, i.e. even without testing whether you have this metabolic disorder, you are guaranteed to take the correct form.

Nutritional properties

  • Vitamin B12 contributes to normal energy metabolism and has a role in cell division.
  • Vitamin B12 contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system and to normal psychological function.
  • Vitamin B12 and folic acid contribute to normal homocysteine metabolism and help reduce tiredness and fatigue.
  • Vitamin B12 contributes to normal formation of red blood cells and, together with folic acid, contributes to the normal function of the immune system.
  • Folate contributes to the growth of maternal tissues during pregnancy and to normal amino acid synthesis. It plays a role in cell division.
