Activated vitamin B6 (P5P): physiological effects

Vitamin B6 plays an important role in the production of energy in our body from carbohydrates (sugars), proteins and fats (energy metabolism). It can also synthesise proteins and fats that are essential for the function of our body.

Pyridoxine is involved in the formation of fatty acids that form the protective layer for our nerve cells (myelin sheath). This may explain the therapeutic successes in neuropathy (numbness, abnormal sensations) and carpal tunnel syndrome. In addition, it promotes the production of the neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline, which are responsible for our metabolism and our mood.

Together with vitamin B12 and folic acid, vitamin B6 promotes the absorption of iron and the formation of blood. As a result, all tissues and cells are better supplied with oxygen.

Activated vitamin B6 is necessary for the synthesis of specific proteins such as hormones and antibodies for our immune system. It counteracts menstrual complaints (painful menstrual bleeding, irritability, breast tenderness) and significantly increases the production of T lymphocytes and T helper cells.
