Activated vitamin B6 (P5P): physiological effects

Vitamin B6 plays an important role in our body’s energy production from carbohydrates (sugar), proteins and fats (energy metabolism). However, it can also help build proteins and fats that are essential for the functioning of our body.

Pyridoxine is involved in the formation of fatty acids that make up the protective layer around our nerve cells (myelin sheath). This could explain the therapeutic success seen in neuropathy (numbness, abnormal sensations) and carpal tunnel syndrome . It also promotes the production of the neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline, which are responsible for our metabolism and our mood.

Together with vitamin B12 and folic acid, vitamin B6 promotes the absorption of iron and blood formation. This ensures that all tissues and cells are better supplied with oxygen.

Activated vitamin B6 is essential for the synthesis of specific proteins such as hormones and antibodies for our immune system. It helps alleviate menstrual symptoms (painful periods, irritability, breast tenderness) and significantly boosts the production of T-lymphocytes and T-helper cells.
