Frankincense with Ginger and Vitamin E
Frankincense (Boswellia serrata) thrives mainly in the dry mountainous regions of north-east India and contains the beneficial, health-promoting boswellic acids. These can, for example, contribute to supporting the body's own metabolic processes in the gut and in the joints.
References to the use of frankincense (Boswellia serrata) can already be found in Egyptian writings dating back three and a half thousand years. The Egyptians used frankincense for the pleasant scent of the air, for ointments and for wound treatment. Three thousand years ago there were already established trade routes, the so-called incense routes, which brought the precious resin on the one hand from Somalia and Ethiopia, and on the other from India and the countries on the Red Sea to Egypt and Mesopotamia.
Hippocrates and Hildegard of Bingen were also familiar with the virtues of frankincense. Saint Hildegard of Bingen (1098–1179) developed important guidelines for a healthy lifestyle and diet. In her work "Physika" she devotes an important chapter to frankincense. The self-assured Benedictine abbess engaged intensively with the effects of plants. For many centuries her teachings were forgotten; only in recent decades her works, known as "Hildegard medicine", have experienced a true renaissance.
