L-proline – the amino acid for more cohesion
L-proline is one of the non-essential amino acids. This means that the body can produce it partly itself. It uses L-glutamate as the basis for this. The remainder is obtained through dietary intake, e.g. by eating meat, milk or even honey. As L-proline is primarily found in animal foods, particular attention should be paid to ensuring adequate supply during a vegan or low-protein diet.
But what is the amino acid actually good for? L-proline plays an important role, especially in connection with collagen. As much as 12% of collagen consists of L-proline, one of our most important structural proteins. Collagen is found, for example, in connective tissue, in the skin, in tendons and in ligaments.
