Potassium: What are the legal regulations and limits?

According to the LMIV (Food Information Regulation) the reference value NRV for potassium is 2000 mg per day.

This information is from 2011 and scientifically outdated. Unfortunately, as an online shop we are legally bound to this value and must use it as such.

The German Nutrition Society recommends for Germany and Austria that healthy adults should consume 4,000 mg potassium daily, according to the DGE. This value has applied since 2016.

The Upper Limit is the amount of a nutrient that can be taken daily over a long period without harming the body.
For the EU the EFSA has not yet set a determination.
Switzerland has insisted since 2020 on a maximum amount of 2250 mg daily for intake via food supplements.

With potassium it should be noted that true deficiencies are actually rare. For example, it is present in large quantities in fruit and vegetables.
A potassium deficiency that would require supplementation therefore only occurs either in medical extremes — which a doctor can determine in laboratory testing — or in extreme dietary situations, e.g. a diet with very little or absolutely no fruit and vegetables.
Therefore we can agree with the cautious Swiss recommendation. It is best to clarify with a doctor or have the laboratory report sent to you.

Potassium from Echt Vital is good and inexpensive. Capsules make a lot of sense, e.g. for elderly people who pre-pack their medication into pill organisers. Or for people who have to take something for a very long time and want to avoid developing an aversion to strongly tasting substances.
If you don't care about any of that and are mentally, physically (handling very small amounts) and technically (precision scale) able to measure powder safely, loose powder is the most cost-effective option.
