In view of the large number of neuroendocrine interactions of cortisol, excess cortisol leads to metabolic disorders with obesity, visceral fat distribution and increased blood lipid levels, diabetes, immunodeficiencies and reduced resistance to infections and tumours. The reason for this is the inhibition of the cellular immune response with a relative strengthening of the humoral immune response.
