Alongside catecholamines, cortisol is the most important stress hormone

In view of the large number of neuroendocrine interactions of cortisol, excess cortisol leads to metabolic disorders with obesity, visceral fat distribution and increased blood lipid levels, diabetes, immunodeficiencies and reduced resistance to infections and tumours. The reason for this is the inhibition of the cellular immune response with a relative strengthening of the humoral immune response. It is responsible for the increased secretion in acute and recurring stress situations. Strongest concentration in the body between 7 and 8 o'clock in the morning.
