Methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin – the best forms of vitamin B12!
Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) has a relatively short history. It was only discovered in 1948. It is a very complex, large molecule and is essential for the development of all the body’s cells. Nerve cells in particular suffer from a deficiency. The best-selling form of B12 is the inexpensive cyanocobalamin. Whilst this is effective, it is not ideal, as it must first be converted for absorption, a process which releases the potentially harmful cyanide compound (better known as hydrocyanic acid).
Methylcobalamin is the form the body needs, and is absorbed much more effectively without requiring conversion. The biological activity of methylcobalamin is enhanced by probiotic bacteria and beetroot.
There is another form of vitamin B12 that is even slightly better than methylcobalamin, which is already a very good form: adenosylcobalamin!
Due to its very high price, it is rarely used in dietary supplements.

Who needs to pay attention to their vitamin B12 intake
Vegans, and in some cases vegetarians who do not consume milk or eggs, must ensure they get sufficient vitamin B12.
Vitamin B12 is absorbed in the large intestine. However, a significant proportion is also produced by the bacteria in the large intestine.
People with chronic bowel conditions (ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease) must therefore pay close attention to their vitamin B12 intake, as must people who have had their large bowel removed (e.g. following bowel cancer surgery).
This is because these people do not produce enough of their own B12.
