p-Aminobenzoic acid
P-Aminobenzoic acid (PABA) is an organic carboxylic acid, a component of folic acid and is often grouped with the B vitamins, although it is not a vitamin. PABA offers the body various health benefits, even though it is not an essential nutrient. PABA is important for metabolism because it helps bacteria in the gut produce folic acid. This substance is a strong antioxidant and is used to strengthen the body from the inside and out. PABA is particularly known for its benefits for skin and hair. It improves skin elasticity, can reduce wrinkles and counteracts skin ageing. It can also prevent premature greying of the hair and help preserve the natural hair colour for longer. PABA used to be an important ingredient in sunscreens because it protects against UVB rays. In addition to these aesthetic effects, PABA supports protein metabolism and the formation of red blood cells. It is also used in connective tissue disorders. It is also applied in connective tissue hardenings (such as scleroderma) to make the tissue more supple... Read more

Strengthening of immune defences and gut health
PABA promotes a healthy gut flora by stimulating folic acid production in gut bacteria. It is also said to stimulate the immune system, enabling the body to better fend off infections.
Occurrence in foods and supplements
PABA occurs naturally in foods such as wheat germ, liver, yoghurt, brewer's yeast and molasses. As the body can partly produce PABA itself, deficiency is rare. Nevertheless, additional supplementation, especially alongside other B vitamins, can be beneficial for certain skin conditions, hair loss or weak connective tissue.
Summary
PABA is an important, often underestimated agent that, as a "youth elixir", protects skin and hair, strengthens connective tissue and improves the overall health of cells
