L-phenylalanine: an important and essential amino acid
The essential amino acid L-phenylalanine is a component of many
proteins in our body and can be converted into L-tyrosine
in the liver. L-phenylalanine and L-tyrosine are both
precursors for neurotransmitters, thyroid hormones and the
skin pigment melanin.
A deficiency in L-phenylalanine can be caused by an unbalanced
diet or excessive stress.
