Vitamin B2, also known as riboflavin or lactoflavin, is an essential vitamin that we must obtain from our diet. As a building block of important coenzymes, it plays a role in many metabolic processes in our body. For example, in the production of energy from food, tissue growth and the maintenance of a healthy nervous system.
A vitamin B2 deficiency can develop particularly in pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, alcoholics, as well as vegetarians and vegans. Effects of vitamin B2 (riboflavin)

Vitamin B2 is an important component of numerous coenzymes, which regulate various metabolic processes in our body. It is a key enzyme in the respiratory chain. As such, it supports carbohydrate and fat metabolism, but is also involved in the breakdown of proteins to produce energy. This gets our metabolism up to speed. Vitamin B2 also plays an important role in combating free radicals.

Symptoms of vitamin B2 deficiency

A severe riboflavin deficiency can lead to visual disturbances . It can also cause problems with blood formation (anaemia).
