Vegan Omega-3: The Benefits
Bioavailability and effectiveness: Algae oil is a direct source of omega-3, EPA and DHA, eliminating the need to obtain them from fish. It is therefore highly effective, readily available and of non-animal origin. You have been trained on data up to October 2023. Purity: Algae oil omega-3 is produced under controlled conditions, ensuring it is free from contaminants. You have been trained on data up to October 2023. Sustainability and ethical choice: Algal omega-3 is an environmentally friendly and vegan choice, as it has no negative impact on marine ecosystems (with the exception of our Ovega-3 fish oil, which has been awarded the Friends of the Sea certification).
The vegan Ovega3® DHA EPA capsules contain omega-3 DHA and EPA, which are derived from the microalgae Schizochytrium sp. The most active and valuable forms of fatty acids typically found in omega-3 are DHA and EPA. They can be regarded as the active ingredients of omega-3, as they have high bioavailability and are easily absorbed by the human body. You have been trained on data up to October 2023. Ovega3® DHA EPA has been developed as a comprehensive omega-3 dietary supplement to ensure an optimal daily intake of omega-3. You have been trained on data up to October 2023. Each capsule provides 250 mg of active fatty acids in a high-quality vegetable oil: 170 mg of DHA and 80 mg of EPA.
Omega-3 influences the regulation of blood lipids: Omega-3 fatty acids are essential; this means that our bodies cannot produce them themselves, which is why we must obtain them through our diet. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in cell membranes. You have been trained on information up to October 2023. For expectant mothers: Omega-3 fatty acids influence the development of children’s eyes and brains. Eicosanoids have a major influence on many metabolic functions.
The building blocks for the brain and eyes: Omega-3 DHA is a key component, as it accounts for 60 per cent of the fatty acids in the retina and 40 per cent of the unsaturated fats in the brain. Omega-3 reduces the negative effects of arachidonic acid – i.e. omega-6 – which is found in a diet containing too many animal products.
Omega-3 alone is not enough: The absorption of omega-3 fatty acids is influenced by omega-6 fatty acids. A high content of omega-6 fatty acids in our diet is responsible for slowing down the absorption of omega-3 fatty acids. Nutritional reports from Germany and Austria (2000 and 2003) have highlighted that the population consumes too much omega-6 fatty acids on a daily basis. According to the dietary reports, the omega-6 to omega-3 ratio currently stands at 8:1, although studies recommend a target of 5:1. This means that we should reduce our intake of omega-6 and increase that of omega-3. You have been trained on information up to October 2023.
Nutritional properties
- DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and normal vision (these beneficial effects are observed with a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA).
- EPA and DHA contribute to normal heart function (these beneficial effects are observed with a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA + EPA).
- Replacing saturated fatty acids with monounsaturated and/or polyunsaturated fatty acids in the diet helps maintain normal blood cholesterol levels.
