The Advantages of Vegan Omega-3
Bioavailability and efficacy: Omega-3 from algae is obtained directly from the primary source of EPA and DHA, eliminating the detour via fish. They are therefore highly effective, readily available and not of animal origin.
Purity: Algal omega-3 is produced under controlled conditions, making it contaminant-free.
Sustainability and ethical choice: Algal omega-3 represents a vegan and environmentally friendly option, as it has no negative impact on marine ecosystems (except our fish oil Ovega-3, which is certified by Friends of the Sea). /p>
Ovega3® DHA EPA are vegan capsules containing omega-3 DHA and EPA, which are obtained from the microalga Schizochytrium sp. DHA and EPA are the most active and valuable forms of fatty acids typically found in omega-3. They are essentially the active ingredients of omega-3, with high bioavailability and easy absorption by the human body.
Ovega3® DHA EPA was designed to provide a comprehensive omega-3 food supplement and to ensure an optimal daily intake of omega-3.
Each capsule contains 250 mg of active fatty acids in a high-quality plant oil: 170 mg DHA and 80 mg EPA.
Omega-3 affects the regulation of blood lipids: Omega-3 fatty acids are essential, meaning that our body cannot synthesise them and must obtain them from food. Cell membranes contain omega-3 fatty acids.
For pregnant women: The development of the eyes and brain in children is influenced by omega-3 fatty acids. Many metabolic functions are influenced by eicosanoids.
Foundation for brain and eyes: Omega-3 DHA makes up 60% of the fatty acids in the retinal of the eye and 40% of the unsaturated fats in the brain. Omega-3 reduces the harmful effects of arachidonic acid, i.e. omega-6, which occurs in a diet with an excess of animal products.
Omega-3 alone is not sufficient: Our ability to absorb omega-3 fatty acids is influenced by omega-6 fatty acids. An excessive amount of omega-6 fatty acids in our diet delays the uptake of omega-3 fatty acids. The German and Austrian nutrition reports of 2000 and 2003 emphasised that the population consumes too many omega-6 fatty acids daily. According to the nutrition reports, the current omega-6–omega-3 ratio is 8:1, while studies recommend a ratio of 5:1. This means that omega-6 consumption should be reduced and omega-3 consumption increased.
Nutritional properties
- DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and the maintenance of normal vision (these beneficial effects are achieved with a daily intake of 250 mg DHA).
- EPA and DHA contribute to the normal functioning of the heart (these beneficial effects are achieved with a daily intake of 250 mg DHA + EPA).
- Replacing saturated fatty acids with mono- and/or polyunsaturated fatty acids in the diet contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels.
