The benefits of vegan omega-3
Bioavailability and efficacy: Omega-3 from algae is derived directly from the primary source of EPA and DHA, thereby bypassing the need for fish. It is therefore highly effective, immediately available and of non-animal origin.
Purity: Omega-3 from algae is produced under controlled conditions, making it free from contaminants.
Sustainability and ethical choice: Omega-3 from algae is a vegan and environmentally friendly option, as it has no negative impact on marine ecosystems (with the exception of our Ovega-3 fish oil, which has been awarded Friends of the Sea certification). /p>
Ovega3® DHA EPA are vegan capsules containing omega-3 DHA and EPA, derived from the microalgae Schizochytrium sp. DHA and EPA are the most active and valuable forms of fatty acids commonly found in omega-3. They are effectively the active ingredients of omega-3, with high bioavailability and easy absorption by the human body.
Ovega3® DHA EPA has been formulated to provide a comprehensive omega-3 dietary supplement and ensure an optimal daily intake of omega-3.
Each capsule contains 250 mg of active fatty acids in a high-quality vegetable oil: 170 mg of DHA and 80 mg of EPA.
Omega-3 influences the regulation of blood lipids: Omega-3 fatty acids are essential, which means that our bodies cannot produce them themselves and must obtain them from our diet. Cell membranes contain omega-3 fatty acids.
For pregnant women: The development of children’s eyes and brains is influenced by omega-3 fatty acids. Many metabolic functions are influenced by eicosanoids.
The building blocks for the brain and eyes: Omega-3 DHA accounts for 60% of the fatty acids in the retina and 40% of the unsaturated fats in the brain. Omega-3 reduces the harmful effects of arachidonic acid – that is, omega-6 – which is found in a diet containing an excess of animal products.
Omega-3 alone is not enough: our ability to absorb omega-3 fatty acids is influenced by omega-6 fatty acids. An excessive amount of omega-6 fatty acids in our diet leads to a delay in the absorption of omega-3 fatty acids. The German and Austrian dietary reports from 2000 and 2003 respectively emphasised that the population consumes too many omega-6 fatty acids on a daily basis. According to these reports, the current omega-6 to omega-3 ratio is 8:1, whilst studies recommend a ratio of 5:1. This means that omega-6 intake should be reduced and omega-3 intake increased.
Nutritional properties
- DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and normal vision (these beneficial effects are observed with a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA).
- EPA and DHA contribute to normal heart function (these beneficial effects are observed with a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA + EPA).
- Replacing saturated fatty acids with monounsaturated and/or polyunsaturated fatty acids in the diet helps maintain normal blood cholesterol levels.
