Salvestrol® Platinum is a plant extract containing high concentrations of specific phytonutrients (phytoalexins) that occur naturally in significant quantities in unsprayed fruit and vegetables. Plant defence substances that protect the plant from fungi, viruses, bacteria, UV light and insects are known as phytoalexins. The plant only produces them in larger quantities when necessary.

At 2000 points per capsule, Salvestrol® Platinum is a very high-dose variant. To put this into perspective: one capsule of Salvestrol® Shield contains 350 Salvestrol points, which corresponds to a maintenance dose.

Salvestrols – rare in today’s diet

The discoverers of salvestrols made an interesting observation: the salvestrol content varies considerably between fresh fruit and vegetables, herbs and processed foods. The use of plant protection products such as fungicides has greatly reduced the salvestrol content in conventional fruit and vegetables. This is hardly surprising, as the plant no longer needs to protect itself by producing phytoalexins. Furthermore, over the last 50 to 60 years, the cultivation of plant varieties that naturally contain high levels of bitter salvestrols (and consequently require fewer pesticides) has declined significantly. This is due to the selection and breeding of plants. People also tend to favour new varieties of fruit and vegetables that are uniform in size, colour and shape, whilst ignoring older and less appealing varieties that are rich in salvestrols. Finally, salvestrols are removed from (refined) foods such as fruit juices and olive oil in order to preserve flavour, colour and brightness. The flavour becomes sweeter without the addition of sugar. Salvestrols are generally found only in small quantities, if at all, in refined foods. The British research group that discovered salvestrols concluded that today’s diet contains 80 to 90 per cent fewer salvestrols than it did 50 to 100 years ago. Salvestrols can now only be found in significant quantities in unsprayed and unprocessed foods.

Why salvestrols are quantified in points

The salvestrol points system is used to quantify the amount of salvestrols in foods and dietary supplements. The potency of different salvestrols varies and is not directly linked to the quantity in milligrams. The points scale was developed based on a calculation of the amount of salvestrols found in a typical diet from over 100 years ago. This quantity corresponds to 100 points.

Phytonutrient complex consisting of citrus bioflavonoids, kabocha squash (Cucurbita maxima) and grapevine (Vitis vinifera), hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (vegetable capsule), rice flour (Oryza sativa).

Recommended intake

Take 1 capsule twice a day with water, with a meal.
