Lower dosage per drop – making it easier for children too!
In the field of orthomolecular medicine, the importance of high doses of vitamin D has been recognised for some time. Over time, national and European government bodies have also been won over by a flood of conclusive research findings. The recommended daily doses and the maximum permitted doses are continuing to rise.
The product contains around 700 drops, each containing 5 µg (200 IU) of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol from sheep’s wool fat). This corresponds to 350 doses of 10 µg each for infants and children, or 140 doses of 25 µg each for adults. The handy pipette allows for simple and precise dosing. Vitamin D3 in droplet form is ideal, as it allows for a range of dosages. It is therefore suitable for the whole family, including young children and people who have difficulty swallowing capsules. Furthermore, it is easy to adjust the dose of vitamin D3 according to the season, if necessary.
Vitamin D3 has the most pronounced effect.
The most common forms of vitamin D (calciferol) are vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). Ergocalciferol is of plant origin, whilst cholecalciferol comes from animal sources. The latter is also produced by the human body in the skin when exposed to UV light, such as sunlight (hence the name ‘sun vitamin’). In the liver, these forms of vitamin D are converted into calcidiol (25-hydroxyvitamin D), a metabolite. In the kidneys as well as in other cells and tissues, calcidiol is converted, as required, into the biologically active hormone calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D). As far as dietary supplementation is concerned, however, it is important to note that vitamin D3 appears to be more effective than vitamin D2 in most cases when it comes to increasing calcidiol and, ultimately, calcitriol levels in the blood.
Vitamin D requirements
Although the skin can produce vitamin D, this does not work properly for many Europeans. It is necessary to spend at least 15 to 30 minutes outdoors every day between 11 am and 3 pm. However, many people have jobs that require them to be indoors during precisely these hours. Furthermore, the weather is often unfavourable. When people do go out into the sun with exposed skin, they soon apply sun cream. Furthermore, the sun’s intensity is insufficient between November and May. Consequently, vitamin D production and dietary intake are inadequate for most people (particularly during these months). Many vitamin D experts also believe that the optimal vitamin D level is higher than that specified in current recommendations. In their view, everyone’s calcidiol level should be at least 75 nanomoles per litre of blood (nmol/l), whilst the Dutch Health Council, for example, considers a level of 30 nmol/l (or 50 nmol/l from the age of 70) to be sufficient. This forms the basis for the reference values for nutrition as well as the recommendations for vitamin D supplementation.
The effect of vitamin D in the body
Over the past few decades, our understanding of the role and importance of vitamin D in the human body has increased considerably. Researchers have discovered receptors for vitamin D in over 30 different tissues and organs, including immune cells, muscles and bones. This means that vitamin D has a wide range of effects and promotes health in many different ways. Above all, it is well known that vitamin D is good for teeth and bones. Vitamin D is essential for the absorption of calcium and phosphorus from food, as well as for maintaining normal blood levels of these two nutrients. These minerals, in turn, are necessary for the mineralisation of teeth and bones. Vitamin D is also beneficial for the muscles, as muscle tissue also contains a vitamin D receptor. Its activation increases protein production in the muscles, which is essential for their function. Furthermore, vitamin D plays a role in the process of cell division and in the regeneration of cells and tissues. In addition, vitamin D has an immunomodulatory effect, meaning it regulates processes within the immune system. T-helper cells, a type of white blood cell that plays a crucial role in certain immunological processes, possess vitamin D receptors. In this way, vitamin D plays a multifaceted role in our complex immune system.

What is the weight or volume of a drop?
For oils and aqueous solutions in dropper bottles or those with pipettes, drops are a popular and practical way of measuring quantities. Unfortunately, however, they are in fact very imprecise.
For anyone who wants – or needs – to know the exact figure for dosing and planning their medication or dietary supplements:
One drop of water is approximately 0.05 ml or 0.05 g, or 50 mg.
Oil has a different density and drips differently to water. Therefore:
One drop of oil is approximately 0.04 ml or 0.35 g, or 35 mg.
Vitals, our new brand from 2025
We are constantly on the lookout for brands that represent our ideals: The highest quality, consistent omission of superfluous additives such as titanium dioxide or porcine gelatine, very good value for money and absolute reliability in delivery to us and therefore also to customers.

35 mg.
