WOSCHA L-OptiZink: a special zinc blend with added copper.
For healthy skin and strong hair, to prevent hair loss and premature greying. Everyone wants beautiful, smooth skin and full, glossy hair, as these shape our outward appearance. A good supply of the trace elements zinc and copper is crucial for this, as they significantly promote the healthy development of skin and hair. WOSCHA L-OptiZink with copper:
- Helps maintain normal skin.
- Protects skin and hair from damage caused by sunlight.
- Promotes strong hair growth.
- Counteracts hair loss.
- May slow down the greying of hair.
Zinc and copper are also important for our immune system and play a role in energy metabolism. Zinc promotes skin regeneration and is involved in cell division and DNA synthesis. Copper is important for blood formation and the normal function of our nervous system.
L-OptiZink: very well absorbed by the body - very effective.
The special, protected zinc formula is a 1:1 complex of zinc and the amino acid methionine. Methionine can be absorbed particularly well by the body, which also benefits the associated zinc. The zinc-methionine complex combats superoxide radicals more than twice as effectively as zinc gluconate and almost twenty times more effectively than zinc oxide. The effect is even more pronounced for hydroxyl radicals. Compared with OptiZinc, L-OptiZink is about 30% more effective against aggressive oxygen species and superoxide anions. It reduces DNA damage caused by free radicals by around 40% more effectively.
Zinc-methionine promotes the formation of certain immune cells (monoblasts, promonocytes, monocytes and macrophages), which are crucial for our immune system and cellular resistance.
WOSCHA L-OptiZink has special properties:
- It also contains copper citrate, which the body can absorb well.
- Zinc and copper are present in the ideal ratio of 10 to 1.
- No additional substances are included.
- The product is suitable for vegans.
Zinc and copper: Important for healthy skin and hair
Without zinc and copper we would quickly look old. This is because a deficiency of zinc and copper can lead to pale, grey skin, dull, thin and brittle hair, hair loss and blemished skin. These two elements protect us from harmful influences and help produce energy in the body. This promotes beautiful skin.
Copper strengthens the hair and gives skin and hair their colour. This colour also protects us from UV rays. Since copper is involved in the formation of connective tissue, it contributes to a normal skin appearance. Important: Zinc and copper can interfere with each other's uptake into the cells. Too much zinc can reduce copper uptake and vice versa. Therefore it is important to take them together.
If the body has a severe zinc deficiency, it is most important to provide it with more zinc. For this we recommend a pure zinc preparation without copper, for example WOSCHA Zinc Citrate or WOSCHA Zinc e with Vitamin C.

1 EMBO-CAPS® daily, with food.
Manufacturer's notes
Both trace elements compete with each other during transport and uptake into the cells. Too much zinc can limit copper uptake – and vice versa. Therefore it is important to take them together.

We have two products with zinc chelates on offer, Woscha L-OptiZink and Vitals Zinkbisglycinat. What is the difference?
Zinc chelates — the better zinc
You cannot simply ingest metals like iron or zinc in their pure form.
The intestine would be unable to absorb the required milligram amounts
of minerals from pieces of zinc or iron — that seems logical even
without a degree in biology.
So these must be taken in the form of chemical compounds that the
intestine can absorb. In the blood or in the cells the body can then
do with the metals what it needs, once it has released them from
those compounds.
There are chemical compounds that are better suited and others that
are moderately or less well suited. You can often tell this shortly
after taking a capsule; some cause nausea quickly.
This is especially familiar to people who have to take cheaply made
preparations from the pharmacy because their doctor is not aware of
these differences. With zinc or iron, such unlucky people often
have this problem.
Among the best compounds are chelates. With these you generally
achieve, firstly, very good absorption in the body and, secondly,
avoid side effects such as nausea or intestinal complaints.
Chelates are compounds of metals or minerals with amino acids.
Zinc bisglycinate and L-zinc methionine
Regarding zinc, we have products that contain zinc bisglycinate or L-zinc methionine. These are two different organic zinc compounds in which zinc is bound to different amino acids:
- Zinc bisglycinate: Here a zinc atom is bonded to two glycine molecules. This form is absorbed very well by the body and is particularly gentle on the stomach.
- L-zinc methionine: In this compound zinc is bound to the
amino acid methionine, which contains sulphur. This variant is often
used because of its ability to counter free radicals and its good
bioavailability in specialised treatments (such as for the skin).
Key differences at a glance
Zinc bisglycinate:
- Binding partner: two glycine molecules (the simplest amino acid)
- Chemical structure: zinc complex (bidentate)
- Notable features: very good tolerability, avoids competition
with other minerals in the intestine
L-zinc methionine
- Binding partner: L-methionine (amino acid containing sulphur)
- Chemical structure: zinc complex (often monodentate)
- Notable features: often sold as OptiZinc and is said to remain
in the body for longer.
Both are high-quality organic forms of zinc and are absorbed by the body much better than inorganic forms such as zinc oxide or zinc sulphate.
High-quality formulations from the Netherlands
The products of podo medi are largely influenced by the naturopathic experience of its co‑founder Wolfgang P. Schallmey. As a naturopath and expert in orthomolecular therapy, he created dietary supplements under his own brand WOSCHA based on many years of experience and a holistic philosophy. In addition to high quality, efficacy and good tolerability, WOSCHA products are characterised by the absence of additives that are added to other preparations to enable cheaper production. WOSCHA products are made from fresh, non‑genetically modified raw materials and are presented in their purest form. In addition, podo medi pays attention to sustainable packaging and dispatch. For example, the product tubs are made from food‑grade PET and recyclable material. Woscha and natura felix are brands of Podomedi.
