Pregnancy & breastfeeding: Optimal nutrient intake!
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, it is very important to eat nutrient-rich foods so that mother and baby are well nourished. In particular, folic acid, iron, iodine and omega-3 fatty acids (DHA) are needed in greater amounts. Folic acid is essential for cell formation, while iron helps transport oxygen in the blood. Iodine is important for the thyroid and cognitive development, and DHA is crucial for the baby's brain and eyes. Vitamin D, calcium and zinc are also beneficial for bone development. A good diet, enriched with healthy oils (such as linseed oil, fish oil) and leafy green vegetables, forms the foundation, and supplements can be helpful after consultation... Read more

Medicinal plants during pregnancy
Medicinal plants can improve wellbeing during pregnancy, but they should be chosen carefully. Gentle teas such as chamomile, lemon balm, lavender and rooibos are considered safe and soothing. For common ailments in the first trimester, ginger in small amounts can help. From the second trimester onwards, nettle or dandelion are good for kidney function, while teas made from raspberry leaves are often only used towards the end of pregnancy (from about the 36th week). Herbs that have strong laxative effects or can induce labour, as well as essential oils such as sage, rosemary and verbena, should be avoided.
Nutrients and herbs during breastfeeding
The breastfeeding period is a time of intense giving and taking. Iron remains very important. To stimulate milk production, certain herbs such as fennel, anise and caraway are helpful. On the other hand, sage and peppermint should be avoided, as they can reduce milk supply. In general: always use medicinal plants and teas only in small amounts and consult an expert if in doubt.
Important notes on use
The intake of dietary supplements (such as vitamin A) should be supervised to prevent overdosing. With medicinal herbs it is important to choose a low dose and pay attention to good quality. A targeted intake of vitamins, minerals and certain herbs can support this particular life stage in a healthy and natural way.
