The role of fish oil in a balanced diet
Fish oil, which is obtained from the tissues of marine fish, is particularly known for its valuable polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially the omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for numerous bodily functions. They not only support cell structure but are also important for heart and brain health. Fish oil, a fatty oil from fish species such as anchovies, mackerel and herring, is rich in the omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). It is often taken in the form of softgel capsules and can be obtained through consuming fish in the diet. An intake of one to two fish meals per week is recommended, with fish oil occurring in a pale yellow, insoluble form and often containing vitamin E added as an antioxidant. There are various ways to integrate fish oil into the diet, either by eating oily fish or in capsule form, which allow standardised dosing. These capsules are very popular, especially among people who do not like fish or do not want to consume it regularly. They are tasteless, easy to store and transport, and provide a steady supply of the valuable fatty acids.... Read more
1 ice pack (200 ml each), frozen to -18 degrees for dispatch
For greater safety in summer All temperature-sensitive products from the manufacturers in our range of dietary supplements, feed, etc. are designed to withstand a short rise in ambient temperature. Microbiotics generally prefer it cool. To compensate for losses during shipping and storage from the outset, substantially more is filled into the capsules than is declared on the pack. The aim is that the capsules still contain as many viable bacteria at the end of the best-before date as were stated. Fish oils, algal oil and krill oil are protected from oxidation by the addition of vitamin E. According to our manufacturers, a slight temperature increase for 1–2 days during transit does not harm them; after that they should be stored cool again or, depending on the product, refrigerated. To protect goods from excessive heat, in summer or at temperatures above 25 °C we ship such products only from Monday to Thursday. At extremely high temperatures from 30 °C we recommend postponing the purchase until they drop again. Of course our customers can decide for themselves. However, we refuse to accept returns of products on the grounds of "heat damage" if the weather conditions were known at the time of purchase. A safe alternative: refrigerated shipping! When purchasing heat-sensitive products (microbiotics, enzymes, oils) we recommend booking refrigerated shipping, which can easily be done via the purchase function; this is set up with us as a normal product. We then include cooling packs — as many as you buy — and insulate the goods particularly well. The more you purchase, the safer and cooler the transport. The insulation and the -18 °C temperature of the cooling packs are sufficient to cool the goods significantly for 12–24 hours. Even if they perhaps no longer arrive cool at the customer's address, the heat exposure during transport will then have been significantly below what the manufacturers specify as the maximum limit. And our customers also receive an additional benefit: these are ordinary cooling packs that are hardly any cheaper to buy in shops. That means they can simply be reused at home afterwards. The cooling packs are suitable for a temperature range from -18 °C to +40 °C, so, for example, they can also be used as a heat pack to apply to tense muscles or similar. Safety notice: The cooling packs are sealed and are not intended to be opened, have their contents removed, or consumed!

Professional cold chain delivery – hemp insulated bag plus sustainable cooling pad
Professional refrigerated shipping in environmentally friendly packaging Temperature-sensitive items such as lactic acid bacteria or omega-3 oils should only be shipped in refrigerated packaging at high outside temperatures so that your products arrive undamaged. In addition to our low-cost light version in the form of camping ice packs, which keep goods slightly cooler for 12–18 hours, we also offer this cooling version, which keeps products cold for significantly longer. We obtain these from Podomedi, but not as a regular product — instead we occasionally place chilled orders there ourselves and keep the cooling packs for our customers. Therefore we always have only a limited supply. For this reason, and also because we make no profit on this product but, on the contrary, sell it slightly below our purchase price, a maximum of one cooling pack can be added to an order. In our experience, in orders with refrigerated shipping that take 2–3 days from Podomedi Netherlands to us, the cooling pads still contained frozen ice, meaning these cooling packs reliably keep your goods cold for at least 2 to a little over 3 days, i.e. for the entire usual DHL transit time! The cooling pack consists of a hemp thermal bag that is fully compostable, and a reusable cooling pad. The hemp bag can be disposed of in organic waste or reused many times. The cooling pads are sustainable and filled with pure water with no chemicals. They can be easily refrozen and used again. To protect goods from excessive heat, in summer or at temperatures above 25 degrees we only ship heat‑sensitive products from Monday to Wednesday. Heat‑sensitive items include: All omega‑3 oils, whether in capsules or bottles Microbiotics such as capsules containing lactic acid bacteria or other digestion‑supporting microbes All types of enzymes At extremely high temperatures from 30 degrees upwards we recommend postponing the purchase until temperatures are lower. Of course our customers can decide this themselves. However, we will refuse returns on the grounds of “heat damage” if the weather conditions were known at the time of purchase AND the parcel had a normal transit time, i.e. was not, for example, excessively delayed due to a DHL error AND no cooling pack was deliberately selected at the time of purchase. Of course we also apply some judgement. We know which products are supplied by the manufacturer with sufficient heat protection to withstand 1–2 days in warmth, e.g. by the addition of vitamin E, and which are rather very sensitive, and we contact customers if necessary before shipping to ensure safe delivery.

The health benefits of fish oil
Fish oil is lipid-lowering, inhibits platelet aggregation and offers numerous health benefits, including protection against cardiovascular disease and support for normal growth and development.
However, fish oil is contraindicated in cases of hypersensitivity and severe diseases of the liver or pancreas, as well as bleeding disorders. Interactions with anticoagulants and digoxin should be watched for. Possible side effects include digestive disturbances, a fishy odour and taste, and prolonged bleeding time. High-quality fish oil capsules should be free from contaminants such as PCBs and methylmercury, which can occur naturally in fish.
Freedom from contaminants and regular testing of fish oils is standard practice with our manufacturers.
The problem that, for example, "fishy belching" can occur can be solved by high-tech capsules, such as those primarily used by EnergyBalance in our range. These are also vegan. While this is not inherently important for our customer—since fish is not vegan—it can be very important, for example, for Muslim or Jewish customers, because such capsules do not contain gelatine, which could otherwise be derived from pork.
The quality of fish oil is a central aspect, as it depends on the species of fish, the fishing region and processing methods. High-quality fish oil is clear and has a neutral odour, while the sustainability of fisheries is increasingly coming to the fore. It is crucial to source fish oil from responsible suppliers to counteract overfishing and environmental damage.
There are often misunderstandings regarding fish oil, for example that all fish oils are identical or that capsules can replace a balanced diet. In reality they should be regarded as a supplement within a comprehensive nutritional strategy. Modern dietary approaches take individual preferences into account and provide room for integrating fish oil into various dietary concepts, thereby making it an essential component of a varied and healthy diet.
